What do you mean “clean your dog WITHOUT shampoo”? Why would you even want to do that?
We’ve got a black Lab. Labrador Retrievers are supposed to have water resistant coats – because their job is to retrieve downed waterfowl for their hunter masters. Anyone who’s ever duck hunted knows that if you’re hunting ducks you’re on or near the water, and the chances of any duck you hit dropping into the water are pretty high.
So you send your faithful, well-trained canine hunting buddy out into that cold water to retrieve them for you. And just like the rest of your hunting gear, you need to keep your Lab’s water-resistant coat in excellent shape.
Using regular dog shampoos can strip the natural oils on your Lab’s coat that are there specifically to help that water roll off…like water off a duck’s back. And the chemicals in most commercial dog shampoos may not be something you want to put on your faithful companion. (more…)

Are you getting enough water every day? Or protein?
That’s a challenge for many of us and when the weather warms up, staying hydrated is essential. If you just can’t do plain old water or get bored drinking plain old water, you need a flavorful option that won’t upset your healthy eating plan. (more…)
It is the only app that I use every single day without fail. YouFood has been instrumental in my weightloss success because it helps me keep track of the elements in my lifestyle that affect my weight (and health):
I can easily see what I’ve eaten (or not) in a day.
This helps me spot trends that may be working against my health goals. When I first started Trim Healthy Mama, I had heard about YouFood (then called TwoGrand) and signed up. After using the app for a while, I noticed that I was eating way more food than I needed. I also noticed I wasn’t eating enough color…like dark leafy green things. I started making sure to eat more rainbow, which has made both my mealtimes and photos much more enjoyable! (more…)
Mister asks me all the time to make him poached eggs.
My answer is usually “No, Mister, I’m not making poached eggs this morning.”
I stink at making poached eggs, you see, and since I’m not really what you call a “morning person,” starting my day out with an epic failure is not my idea of fun. I don’t need that kind of stress in my life, let me tell you.
But as a loving mommy who wants to make things that her children will eat, especially if they ask for something healthy, it breaks my heart that I can not poach an egg. I remember eating poached eggs on toast as a kid and it was one of my favorite breakfasts. Maybe because we didn’t have it often…but at least my mom could poach an egg! Poached eggs and pie crusts are two things I did not inherit my mom’s talents in making. (more…)
What is matcha tea?
Matcha tea is a green tea that is unique to Japan and comes from the plant Camellia Sinensis. It has been used for hundreds of years in tea ceremonies. Matcha is the only form of tea in which the whole leaf is consumed rather than just brewing in water such as with loose leaf teas. Consuming the whole leaf means you also get more of the nutrients in the tea. (more…)
What is a WonderMix?
The WonderMix is a deluxe kitchen tool brought to you by the makers of the amazing WonderMill. I got a chance to participate in the WonderMill Grain Mill Challenge a few years ago and it’s been one of my favorite kitchen tools! So when I got a chance to review the new WonderMix, I jumped on it.
The WonderMix combines two of the most-used appliances in my kitchen – the blender and stand mixer. Plus you can also purchase attachments like a slicer/shredder, meat grinder, grain flaker and grain mill.
Here’s what came in the box: (more…)
Recently, I received a copy of Teresa Tapp’s Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes to review here on the blog.
Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes also came with a bonus DVD – The Secret to a Flat Stomach (without situps)! That is definitely one secret I’m glad to know! Even though I am not trying to achieve some kind of supermodel perfection, getting rid of this pudge in my midsection…which is that very unhealthy visceral fat…is something for which I am aiming.
I am somewhat familiar with the T-Tapp program, as I ordered the Basic Workout Plus (BWO+) program in January and began doing the workout on February 1. I was very glad for this opportunity, though, because the book goes into greater detail about the moves and why they work as well as more moves for the Total Workout. The Total Workout concentrates on the core to deliver body sculpting and increase metabolism. (more…)
If you cook, you know how important it is to keep food from sticking, right?
Do you use parchment paper often? Does it just burn your cookies to buy something that’s just going to get tossed out? It does mine! I used to think parchment paper was just a frou-frou Martha Stewart thing, but then I tried baking on it and loved the non-stick qualities. I even reused it as long as I could, but let’s face it…it’s still paper and it’s just not going to stand up to repeated use in the oven. This means I have to buy it again, and at over $3 a roll, that can really add up to a lot of money in the trash.
What about non-stick sprays or added oils? If you’re concerned about chemicals in your life, such as this mouthful – Demethyl Silicone…or this vague description…Propellant…then you’ll certainly appreciate a product that will keep foods from sticking to your baking sheets without possibly harming you or your family. And if low-fat cooking and baking is part of your repertoire, you need something tat is truly non-stick. (more…)
What is Organic India Moringa leaf powder?
Organic India Moringa leaf powder is made from the powdered leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree, which has a long history of traditional use. It is a nutritionally complex whole food rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Moringa leaves have been eaten for thousands of years as a superfood nutritional supplement! In fact, it is often used to combat malnutrition in impoverished countries.
Recently, I was selected to review Organic India Moringa leaf powder.
That’s one of the many perks of being a Moms Meet blogger! I’d heard of Moringa but really didn’t know anything about it so I was excited to learn more about this amazing plant and give the product a try.
